Do you know that a brain needs protein to develop correctly? Are you aware that a healthy female can gain weight if she does not get enough crucial oil & fatty acids that are so important for her body's metabolism? The greatest hurdle we face is that we enjoy a food for its taste and not for the nutrition and this has a direct effect on our health. Nonetheless our health depends invariably on our nutritional intake. But do we know our nutritional requirements, how we should fulfill them and how to look for the right nutritional value? Nutrition refers to the nurturing of our body. Ill health can be caused by an imbalance of nutrients, producing either an excess or deficiency, which in turn affects body functioning cumulatively. This causes imbalance in hormonal function indirectly. Because they regulate the expression of genes, the hormones are an important link between how nutritional the food is and how our genes are expressed.
Good nutrition paves the way for a healthy body and helps not only in proper functioning but also
in its appearance. A weakly nourished body is quite visible from its looks. Soaring eyes and falling hair may give enough evidence of mal nutrition or some sort of deficiency. Deficiencies give way to diseases. A diet deficient in vitamins can cause Rickets – an abnormal bone formation in children resulting from inadequate calcium, a diet deficient in iron can cause Anemia which is a slow, long term blood loss. Even excess of nutrition can lead to diseases, the most common being obesity.
Since it is not always possible to eat the right food in the right combination every day, nutritional supplements are not a bad idea. American Medical Association now recommends that everyone should take nutritional supplements every day. Nutritional supplements are now considered safe to add to the food supplements to compensate for the minerals, vitamins or protein we might not be taking. Vitamins, minerals, trace elements and Omega-3 fatty acids supplements are likely to strengthen our immune system.
An essential trace mineral is Selenium. Though not a part of a daily muti-vitamin food chart, it does contribute to healthy human life. It helps in proper immune system function, as well as numerous metabolic pathways. A common example of diet containing this wonderful trace mineral is chicken. Chicken has good source of selenium and is one of the foods that builds your immune system strength.
Even for a good oral health, good nutrition is essential. Vitamin A, Vitamin B Complex and Vitamin C would prevent certain diseases related to gums like scurvy and beri beri. Beta-carotene would bring down the cholesterol level in addition to improving our vision.
Leading research scientists have demonstrated a direct link between diseases and our nutritional intake. Disease that have become lethal today like cancer and heart disease were not even heard of 5 decades before. With a vast knowledge available on the web on nutrition it would not be too difficult to get to know the right nutritional intake and get your health into shape.
